Why join Yale Health

  • Yale Health has been the first choice for health care of Yale faculty, staff and employees since its inception in 1971.
  • Our 33,000 members receive the finest clinical care, geared to the particular needs of the Yale community (read some of their stories).
  • We are a Joint Commission accredited organization.
  • You (and any dependents you enroll) are covered for a wide range of health care services from routine health screenings to complex surgery with no deductibles or co-pays.
  • We offer extended clinic hours during the academic year to allow for convenient scheduling and access to care.
  • We offer on site medical support services with a pharmacy, diagnostic imaging suite, endoscopy suite and laboratory.
  • Communicate with your clinician using Yale Health Online (YHOL), an interactive web site where security and confidentiality are assured to make or change appointments and post secure messages to your health care team.
  • 24/7 phone access to a nurse for medical questions through our Acute Care Department.
  • Population-based medicine approach to disease management and best practices, with the aim of greater empowerment and autonomy in maintaining good health.

Our clinicians – physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, physician associates and others – are committed to a team approach to health care. Our entire mission is to keep you well, and to provide the highest quality care when you are ill.

  • The plan is not-for-profit; there are no financial incentives to withhold care.
  • The plan is clinician-run, with decisions made by people whose focus is on caring for members.
  • As a member of Yale Health, you have access to preventive, diagnostic and treatment services both at Yale Health and through a network of clinicians and services at Yale New Haven Hospital, Yale University School of Medicine, and other area facilities.

Illness doesn’t always happen at the most convenient time. Figuring out how to make decisions about specialty care or hospitalization can feel overwhelming. As a member of Yale Health, you can feel secure knowing that help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • The Acute Care Department is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Our Care Coordination Department is available to assist with coordination of care between your primary care clinician and specialty care clincians and/or hospitals.
  • Our Inpatient Care Department offers inpatient evaluation and treatment for a wide range of conditions. It also provides transitional care after hospital stays and certain outpatient services requiring skilled care but not hospitalization.
  • Access to Healthwise, a self-care assessment tool to be used as a practical guide for deciding when you should see a doctor and which home treatments are best. You have the right to accurate information about your health conditions and treatment options. Medical decisions made with your informed input are most likely to yield the best results for you and your family. Every person, with the benefit of good information, can improve the quality and the results of his or her health care.

Our members enjoy
