Overview
Yale alumni vote each spring to elect one new Alumni Fellow to serve a six-year term on the Yale Corporation, the University's governing board. This year alumni will elect one Alumni Fellow to fill the vacancy to be caused by the expiration of the term of Margaret G. Warner, '71, B.A. The Office of the Secretary conducts the election.
Voter eligibility
The Yale Charter provides that all graduates of the first degree of five or more years' standing and all persons admitted to any degree higher than the first in the University, whether honorary or in course, may vote in the Alumni Fellow election. Therefore, all persons with Yale graduate degrees, and all those who received their Yale undergraduate degrees in 2006 or earlier, are eligible to vote this spring.
Ballot distribution
The regulations of the Yale Corporation specify that votes shall be cast on the official ballot. Election materials, which include the official ballot, will be distributed to all eligible voters after March 27. Alumni for whom the University has e-mail addresses will receive ballots via the Internet. The University has engaged Election Services Corporation, a firm that is expert in providing these services to higher education, corporate, and nonprofit organization clients, to manage this task. Alumni who do not have an e-mail on file will receive a paper ballot. Specifically:
- Via the Internet Alumni for whom the University has e-mail addresses will receive an e-mail from Linda Koch Lorimer, Vice President and Secretary of the University containing the election ballot. Yale's election process is "green" and we will continue to strengthen our commitment to Yale's major Sustainability Initiative for the environment by distributing all ballots electronically unless an alumnus/a specifically requests a paper ballot.
- Via regular mail (for those alumni without emails on file and those who choose to receive paper ballots) Alumni who live in the United States will receive their ballots by US mail; alumni who live outside the United States will receive their ballots by International Priority Airmail.
Voting
Alumni who receive paper ballots can vote via the Internet or by enclosing their completed paper ballots in the return envelope provided in the election materials package or in a plain envelope addressed to the mailing address listed below. Alumni who receive their ballots via the Internet must vote electronically.
Deadline for receipt of ballots
The Yale Charter specifies that the election shall occur on the "day next preceding Commencement day." This year, the election date is Sunday, May 20. Late ballots may not be counted. Ballots are to be mailed to:

Electors may make written application for a replacement ballot until May 4. Alumni who wish to participate in this year's election should act as early as possible to ensure that their ballot is received by the election date.
