Wireless Security - medical campus

Wireless network devices must be configured to minimize the ability of unauthorized individuals to gain access to University resources or to monitor data communications. Wireless networks inherently provide a lower level of security than wired networks, making them problematic when handling protected health information. Clients should ensure their computing device is securely configured and if the computing device contains protected health information you should always ensure they are using an encrypted method when connecting.

YaleSecure is the preferred wireless network for members of the campus community including students, faculty and staff with NetIDs. It provides full encryption of data across the wireless network, and users are authenticated using NetID and password. Your machine is not required to be registered to access YaleSecure. This is also the preferred replacement for current Medical School wireless that requires VPN, with YaleSecure no VPN is required.

YaleSecure (preferred) leverages the WPA2 protocol, you are authenticated using your NetID/password and your data is encrypted over the wireless network. You may automatically configure your computer or mobile device for secure network access by visiting wifi-config.yale.edu.

Please note:

    *   Only USE the YaleSecure network/SSID.
    *   Do not use the ‘Yale Guest’ network/SSID.
    *   Do not use any networks/SSIDs you don’t know are encrypted.
