Automated abuse response - abuse@yale.edu

The abuse@yale.edu account was created to address misuse of email and other Internet services that might have originated from the Yale University network. Messages sent to abuse@yale.edu are received by both the University Postmaster and the Information Security (ISO) staff. We will investigate your complaint and if we need additional information we will contact you directly.

Generally spam (junk or unsolicited email) from a NON-Yale account should NOT be forwarded to abuse@yale.edu. We have found that most messages sent to abuse@yale.edu do not originate from a computing device on the Yale University network. Even if the return header suggests the message originated within our network, there is a strong chance that it contains a falsified header or has bounced off of a server in our network. To determine the actual origin and to make a full investigation possible, we require that you provide us with all relevant information, including the ‘full header’ of any email message.

Everyone is receiving an increasing amount of spam and an increase in sexually explicit spam from non-Yale accounts. It is very difficult to filter spam at the mail server level without including false positives. The University has implemented centralized spam filtering mechanisms and provided tools that individuals can implement to filter unwanted spam or junk mail:

If you have an urgent matter please call the ITS Help Desk at 203-432-9000 and they can contact an ITS Information Security staff member.

The University does not monitor information transmitted through or hosted on its network. However, we take all potential violations of our Information Technology Appropriate Use Policy seriously and will fully investigate your report.
