Using the Out of Office Assistant in YaleConnect webmail
Office auto-replies can be customized for recipients both inside and outside of Yale. For example, you might want a more generic message sent outside of Yale — perhaps one that doesn't list alternate contact names, phone numbers, or email addresses. You can also schedule auto replies in advance with a start and stop time.
System requirements
Any computer with Internet access and an installed web browser (for example, a Windows computer with Internet Explorer or a Macintosh with Safari, Linux with Thunderbird).
- Launch YaleConnect webmail by opening https://connect.yale.edu. Enter your firstname.lastname@yale.edu in the E-mail Address field and then enter your Yale NetID password in the Password field.

- The Inbox is displayed:

- Click the Options tab and choose Set Automatic Replies... from the drop-down menu:

- Click the Send automatic replies radio button and check the Send replies only during this time period check box and set the dates you would like out of office replies to be sent.

- In the message text box, type your out-of-office message:

- Click Save in the bottom right corner of the Out of Office Assistant window.

Outside your organization auto replies
Important: In the context of the YaleConnect service, a sender from "Outside My Organization" is a sender with an email account on any email system other than YaleConnect. This includes the Yale central and legacy medical campus email services. Therefore, if you intend for auto-replies to be sent to anyone at Yale who sends email to you, you must configure the Out of Office Assistant to include auto-replies to senders outside your organization. |
Optionally, you can send auto-replies to people outside of your organization (that is, any sender on an email system other than YaleConnect). You can choose whether to send an auto-reply to each person who sends you an email message or only to people who are listed in your Contacts.
Note: The contact must exist in your YaleConnect Contacts folder. If the contact exists only in a folder that is a part of a Personal Folders file (.pst), the auto-reply message will not be sent.
- If desired, click Send Out of Office auto-replies to external senders:

- Select one of the following to specify the people to whom auto-replies are to be sent:
- Send Out of Office auto-replies only to senders in my Contacts list.
- Send Out of Office auto-replies to anyone outside my organization
The following illustration shows an example of a completed out-of-office assistant screen.

- Click Save in the bottom right corner of the Out of Office Assistant window.

- You may now sign out of YaleConnect webmail.
