Nathan Kurz

I am a fourth-year graduate student in Modern European and Jewish history. My main interests include the history of human rights, the emergence of international civil society in the 19th and 20th centuries, and Israeli history. My dissertation, tentatively entitled "'A Sphere Above the Nations?' Human Rights and the Limits of Jewish Transnational Politics, 1945-1975," examines the role of international Jewish organizations in human rights. In this work I am supported by Professors Jay Winter, Paula Hyman, and Adam Tooze.

Prior to Yale, I earned my B.A. (2006) at Stanford, where my senior thesis, "Writing and Rewriting the Balfour Declaration: The Manchester Zionists and Chaim Weizmann" won prizes from the Judaic studies and history departments.
